All,
Originally, we were planning to take a canoe trip in May. For
various reasons, it has been moved back to July 11-13. These dates
are for canoeing, and we may need a day on either side for travel to
and from Buchanan, Va (no, I'm not making it up) so please cordon off
the 10-14th. A rough cost for the trip is $110 which includes
canoeing, food, and travel. Here is a short description of the trip.
· Canoe Camping - Intermediate Level - 3 Day – 2 Night – 32
mile white water canoe camping trip. Canoe from Buchanan to Snowden
on the James River camping overnight on a private 1000 foot island the
1st night and in the James River Gorge in the Jefferson National
Forest the 2nd night. The trip allows the group to warm up before you
enter the James River Gorge, the highlight of the trip. The Balcony
falls section of the James River is thought by many to be the most
scenic section on the entire James River with a gradient of 17 feet
per mile the trip includes many challenging class II rapids and easy
class III rapid called Balcony Falls .
