All,
I'm writing this to let you know that you may need to take action
to protect your children. At the meeting last week, there was
discussion among the boys about how to bypass parental controls on the
computer and what combinations of words could be used in search
engines to get to sites that "your parents wouldn't like." While
scouts is meant to be instructive it should not do so at the risk of
the boy's mental and emotional well-being. I think it's important to
get this out quickly (I just found out tonight) so that you (parents)
can take appropriate actions to protect your son. I do not have
details such as who said what, etc...
Furthermore, the fact that I have never personally witnessed any
such behavior indicates to me that the boys understand that it is
wrong. This gives me hope for positive change. I will be having a
discussion with the upper-rank scouts next week (1st class and above).
Any parents and adult leaders are welcome to sit in and/or
participate. We will be having a parents meeting on Thursday 29 May
to discuss your thoughts on how we are doing and can improve. Please
feel free to call me or respond to this email with any questions or
info you may have to assist.
