To All Scout Leaders,
The Marine Corps Marathon is asking for our help. I realize that this is short notice, but if your unit wants to help out please contact Tami.
Mark Crooks
Hello. I am the community relations coordinator for Marine Corps Marathon at Quantico, we are a not-for-profit organization that supports the United States Marine Corps.
I have a couple of opportunities to tell your boy scouts about.
We are holding the Marine Corps Historic Half on Sunday, May 18 at 7 a.m. in Fredericksburg Va. Please go to our website at www.marinecorpshistorichalf.com to see all about the race, the entertainment and all that is happening the weekend of the 16th-18th.
The race was sold out with 5,000 runners, now we have just re-opened it for registration. The race begins at 7 a.m., and is followed by Semper Fred at 7:15 a.m., which is a two-mile Family Fun Run or Walk.
The two races start and finish outside the Fredericksburg Expo Center. The Historic Half is 13.1 miles. We have entertainers all along the race course and many volunteers.
The boy scouts will be able to work with our uniformed Marines from Quantico. We need assistance in encouraging the runners with posters and cheers, pointing the runners in the right direction toward water points and food stations, pointing spectators in the right direction and course clean up.
Please let me know if you would like to bring any of your scouts. I have enclosed information about the race and about Semper Fred and the Historic Half course map as well.
We are asking all of our volunteers and entertainers to be in their places on the course by 6 a.m., because the race begins at 7 a.m. We are giving each of our groups areas to park and we are also operating free shuttle service on race day. The boy scouts can bring their parents, siblings, grandparents or friends to the race that day.
Please let me know if your interesting in having the boy scouts of Aquia participate.
Also, I would like to talk to you about our Run Amuck and Kids Run Amuck on Saturday, June 21 at 8 a.m. on Quantico Marine Corps Base. We are looking for boy scouts to help us with the race that day as well.
Please call me at your convenience so we can discuss these opportunities. We are also happy to help the boys obtain badges for community service or volunteering.
Thank you,
Tami
